Quincy Newell's career in the entertainment and media business spans over 30 years. Mr. Newell’s most recent post was as Executive Vice President and General Manager of Codeblack Films, a wholly owned subsidiary of Lionsgate Entertainment Corp., where he oversaw day-to-day operations of the venture. Mr. Newell served in this capacity from April 2012 to December 2017.
In January 2006 Newell co-founded Codeblack Entertainment, where he also served as General Manager. In addition to overseeing day-to-day operations for the company, Newell also wrote and produced the 2009 Sundance Film Festival Official Selection “Why We Laugh: Black Comedians on Black Comedy”, produced Kevin Hart’s independent box-office hit "Laugh at My Pain" (where Newell was also responsible for overseeing all facets of the production and creative direction for the film and its release), Shaquille O’Neal’s “Shaq All Star Comedy Jam” franchise, as well as T.D. Jakes’ “Woman Thou Art Loosed: On the 7th Day” among others. Mr. Newell was nominated for an NAACP Image Award for his role as producer on 7th Day. Mr. Newell served in the capacity of General Manager until the company was acquired by Lionsgate in March 2012.
Clients (current and past) include; Robert Alonzo’s Dynamic Action Design (DynamicActionDesign.com) along with Alonzo’s start up production shingle Shadow Bandit Entertainment, Reign (Reign.com), a wholly owned subsidiary of First World Media LLC, Forest Whitaker and Nina Yang Bongiovi’s production company Significant Productions, and the estate of prolific figurative artist Ernie Barnes.
Mr. Newell founded TwentyOne14 after helping shape business, marketing and distribution strategies for UrbanWorks Entertainment, Vivendi Distribution, Codeblack Entertainment and mini-major, Lionsgate. With a simple mission to deliver resonant content to targeted audiences by leveraging digital technology as the anchor exploitation mechanism, Newell recognized that TwentyOne14 could serve as a bridge between filmmakers of color, consumer-friendly technology offerings and a focused, specialized audience.
Mr. Newell is a member of the Producer's Guild of America and has earned a Master's Degree in Business Administration from Pepperdine University's Graziadio School of Business and Management, where he is also a board member. He was awarded the school's Distinguished Alumnus Award in 2018. Mr. Newell also earned a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of West Los Angeles School of Law in Los Angeles, CA. Mr. Newell also serves as a part-time Adjunct Professor at Santa Monica College’s Academy of Entertainment & Technology, in Santa Monica, CA.
